Data confidence — Casualty and territorial figures vary significantly by source type. Government claims, NGO/tracker data (e.g. ACLED), independent journalism, and militant claims frequently disagree, sometimes by wide margins. Where sources conflict, this platform shows the individual reported figures side by side rather than averaging or picking one. Pre-2023 historical conflict records rely predominantly (~97%) on the Council on Foreign Relations’ Nigeria Security Tracker (NST) baseline, while coverage from 2024 to present is diversified across frontline OSINT, military releases, and independent national investigative reporting.
